May 2015 – New Water Purification System for the School in Souvenance, Haiti

In December 2014 a well was drilled at the new Holy Bible Church School in Souvenance.

DSCN0015 (Large)The new school now has three classrooms with the first three grades and as additional grades are added, a additional three classroom building will be added.

The well was put in so that the school would not have to use the community well.  This new well was supplied by the Decatur Daybreak Rotary Club in Decatur, Alabama under the leadership of Bill O’Brien and Ronnie Smallwood.  This well will serve two purposes:  1) to provide a source of raw water for a Living Waters for the World Ozone water purification system and 2) as a source of water for a small garden for the school.

The Ozone system was supplied by the North Jefferson DSCN0009 (Large)Rotary Club in Gardendale Alabama.  In May, 2015 Ronnie Clement, Kent Howze and Richard Bradley traveled to Haiti to train and install the system.  Kent developed a covenant with the Holy Bible Church and the community that strengthens the ownership and sustainability of the Ozone system, while Ronnie taught a group of community leaders the importance and application of sanitation and hygiene principles.  Richard installed the water system and provided training with the operators while installing the components.

Two tanks were placed on the roof.  One for raw water from the well and one for the purified water from the Ozone treatment system.  Finally, a sink and bottle washing station will be installed to allow the community to bring their bottles to be sterilized and then filled with pure water.

This system is capable of supplying up to 3000 gallons a day and in the event of a disease outbreak (like the Cholera epidemic of 2010) it will become a source of clean water to help those in need.

Bottom line, this is why we do this!  The Children are the Future.  We need them healthy, educated and loving Jesus!  Thank you Pastor Elise, Pastor Samuel and all the teachers for all you are doing in Souvenance and Petite Riviere.  It is Light in a dark world.
